March of the Penguins

We went to a movie yesterday about penguins. It was sort of a documentary story of the life of penguins, mostly about how they breed. Very interesting movie (who knew that penguin daddys were the ones who sat on the eggs to keep them warm?), beautiful cinematography. It was not really for little kids although Katie and Sofia enjoyed some of it. It had a very sensual and touching "sex" scene that would make a preteen blush. There was a "scary" part too that made Sofia cry, where a large bird was hovering, pecking, and grabbing at the baby penguins. Go to the matinee if you get a chance.

You've seen these sorts of photos in the paper after a hot weekend or holiday. This was Zuma Beach today - surf to asphalt people. We got there early enough not to have to wrestle for parking and had a great time. Ahhhh, only about 78 degrees here. Posted by Picasa

I said I knew where it lived, not that I could get close. Here it is - go research! Posted by Picasa

Can there ever be enough pictures of babies playing with their feet? Posted by Picasa

Not much in the photo department in the last few days. Here's Chris multitasking. Posted by Picasa

Icky sticky

Well, for those of you blogalicious fans, I may have spoken a wee bit soon. Today it's 93 and rather humid. Yuck. Oh well, what can you expect, it is July, right? But, on a more fun note, I have a great name-that-bird bird coming up. I know I can get a picture of this one because I know where it lives... There is definitely no shortage of wildlife here.

"Ooooh, solo mioooo..." More beach fun. Our new favorite thing to do. Maia is working on her loud singing voice while watching the waves. Posted by Picasa

On Wednesday, Katie and her mom and sister came over for dinner and playing. Her dad is out of town for a week, and we figured Aimee needed a little break from cooking. Posted by Picasa

Then, on Tuesday Sofia buried herself in the sand pile. Soon, there will be a sand box, but until then, she doesn't seem to mind. Posted by Picasa

Sofia was a little fish as usual... Posted by Picasa

More recently, we spent part of the holiday weekend in Encinitas and a day at the beach. Maia practiced her sitting up... Posted by Picasa

A couple weeks ago, we went to Lake Arrowhead and Sofia got to feed the ducks and trout. Worth the 3 1/2 hour drive? Sure. Posted by Picasa
