Well, I'm a little behind. This birdie visited our backyard back in July. It sat on top of the girls' playhouse and promptly flew off. I think this was taken through the window. Any guesses?
No, sorry Thomas. I believe if you study the tail feathers, you'll notice a difference between this bird and the red-shouldered hawk. But thanks for trying, you're on your way to becoming an excellent birder!
Ding, ding, ding! Yes, it's the Cooper's Hawk. They're common around here with their striking black and white striped tails. I think this one may have been young, it seemed small.
